2. Friendship and hardships of chemistry
“This was the last letter that Munny sent, and it was a month back. That is strange… She always sent a couple of letters each week, telling me about all the things that were happening at home. ” A slender guy was looking concerned.
Today, these two friends met after a week because of all the exams they had; there was no time to meet earlier. That is why it was decided to meet me on the day of the last exam in their student cafeteria, because on Wednesdays there was always a free chocolate cake which both guys loved to the deepest of their hearts. Because of that, the scene was quite funny: two mature guys complete a chocolate cake with hot chocolate that supports their brains with sugar supplies.
The taller guy just smiled and tried to wash off his worries. “Do not worry, pal! This all-war situation just does not give us any time to live a normal life. Same here, my mom still has not sent any letter to me, even Betty… Oh, my lovely Betty… I miss her sooo much.”
Hazel-eyed guy chuckled softly. He knew that when it came to this amazing girl, Betty, Raven’s mind went blank, and he was drowning in his fantasies, imagining himself and Betty. Unfortunately, now it was difficult because of the studies in the academy and the political situation in the country.
The listener just smiled and reminded Raven what the topic was, “I know she is the best, but that was not the point of what you were making.” Raven, a simple guy, blond with warm brown eyes and an enchanting smile that looks creepy from time to time. He was tall, the tallest guy in their village, with a good body and strong arms. That was obvious because his family always was into digging and finding metals and then processing them. The Berman blacksmiths were the oldest and most trusted business in the village, so it is not surprising that this guy is so fit.

Totenrhyme academy was the best higher education estate in the capital city of Lautenrain, which means that competition was high to be the best there. Yeah, that is his friend and mate from the village, Amerdin Rente. He is the perfect definition of averageness. Not tall but not short also, dark brown hair and a fair complexion. The only significant difference was his eyes, the real Hazel color, green in sunlight and brown in the shadow. Plus, what made him a bit different from others was a tattoo on his neck dedicated to his first and utmost love, chemistry. That was a geometrically perfect chemical structure of serotonin, which supervises the feeling of happiness. The chemistry was his happiness and passion and first love. He always wore a dark blue sweater with a lonely iris flower in the front right corner. Munny made it for him last year and he loves it really much because that iris is the same from the valley story.
Valley story is a book about the birth and rise of our village and mountains. It has all the gods listed and events that took place there. Every kid would hear this story in school or at home because it is our heritage. People of mountain valley had different lifestyles due to conditions. In this book, it is written about a lake in the mountains where black irises grow. In the sun it was black and looked burned but in the moonlight, exactly at that time they bloomed, irises shone with aquamarine sheen and lightened up the complete mountain range blessing people with luck and happiness. Munny loved this story the most because she believed that it could fulfil wishes, otherwise how people will become happy, that is the reasoning she gave.
After the so-called demon storm and series of avalanches 5 years ago Rente family contained just Amer and Munny. If aunt Elly did not take them in her home as her children; they would be done for. She was not related to them, but she was the one who was there when he was born, helping his mother with pushing him out and nursing her after. She was a herbalist and nurse. Now she just makes some ointments and helps people with traditional medicine. The aunt was the one who taught Amerdin that chemistry is an important part of people’s lives and it can kill or heal. That is the reason why all the people believed in tales of magical healing herbs and any other fairy tale.
Amerdin gave his friend one last smile and waved him. Raven was his support for many years and that is the reason he was in the academy. Everyone should have this kind of friend who will drag you out of the worst and still smile and roast you. He went down the street taking his last stroll in this city, because of the war no one knows when he will be able to get back to the capital and start studying again. If his home village is only snow and mountains, then there are only green yards and rain. The city was beautiful during winter and mid seasons but in summer it was drying out completely which was the only period of two months which were considered vacation from the academy. He surely will miss this city that is so much in contrast with his own.
When he turned left at the flower shop, the Olianders store could be seen. There was a big golden board which basically shouted Oliander arts above the green metal gate. There were still some 20 minutes left until the closing time. He just went in and bought what his little chipmunk dreamed of – canvas and a set of oil crayons, those she loved the most. She said it made everything borderless and colorful, like in fairy tales. She is just 10 years old and she loves their village and people so much… Probably it is too simple an explanation for this small girl with a big heart. She just loved everything that belongs to nature. Animals, flowers, trees, and so on. She even talked with the ancient oak, which is in the middle of the village, believing that it hears everything. She is too pure and naive.
He grabbed and shoved all the stuff in his bag and strolled down back to his dormitory to pick up stuff and go off to his home. He was trying to memorize all the small stuff in the old city and wished for a safe stay to the people who he knew and met on the way. He was happy to go home after these long 7 months and tell his small sister all the stuff that happened since he left home.
